Origins...

Parkour is a sport that combines strength, balance, focus and speed with fluid movement and the mindset to adapt your movement to or surroundings.

Parkour is an adaption of the french "
l'art du déplacement" meaning "the art of movement".

It is difficult to define an exact time zone for the 'creation' of parkour as fluid movement has been in existence since the dawn of humanity. Parkour is the definition of the human ability to adapt and cope with any problem or challenge that confronts us.

The Belle Family

The most modern 'founder' of the sport would be considered David Belle, stuntman and actor.
Belle is largely to thank for the modern revival in the sport through both his classes in his native Paris and through his roles in films (Namely "District b13: ultimatum" and the up and coming "Prince Of Persia" film).

David himself was born in 29 April 1973 to a family of highly skilled rescuers in the Parisian fire department. His grandfather Gilbert Kitten, Father Raymond Belle and Brother Jeff Belle had all reached the highest possible accolades during there time in Paris.

Throughout his early life, David expressed a clear skill in athletics, climbing, gymnastics and martial arts. During his early life, he made close friends with a group of teenagers who would go on to become the almost legendary parkour group Yamaki.

g After abandoning the army for personal reasons, David began making short recordings desplaying his capabilities. One such recording found its way to an American film team "the Stade 2 team" who set about making a film about Belles skill, named 'the speed-air man' and 'catmen'.

Belle continues to live in Paris and plays an active role in the progression of parkour there. He also acts, stunt acts and orchestrates the stunts for many popular movies.
